Record number of runners at 2013 F.I.S.H. 10K

More runners than ever competed at the 10K Race 4 F.I.S.H. at the Sanibel Community House on Oct. 19.

The number of registered runners increased from 380 in 2012 to 497, said F.I.S.H. President John Morse. Not only has the race grown in popularity each year, he said, but also more local businesses and organizations formed teams than ever before.

"We're very pleased. It was a little warmer and more humid than last year, but it's not raining so it's still good," said Morse.

The title sponsor for the fifth annual race was The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company and proceeds benefit F.I.S.H. of Sanibel's island operations, ranging from a food pantry to transportation to medical appointments.

Morse said organizers were still determining how much money was raised for F.I.S.H., but he said the amount is well over $40,000.

"We were very successful," said Morse.
