Theresa Elaine Louwers, 65, a longtime resident of Sanibel, passed away on February 17, 2015. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother and a friend to all that knew her. Her love for others, especially to the children of families she cared so much about will endure forever. Theresa was born August 18, 1949 to Alden and Madeline Clark in Detroit, Michigan. Her loving brothers Glen, Mark and Scott and sisters, Cindy and Alida have always been a part of her life. In 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Louwers. A forever lasting love for the past 18,612 days. Theresa and Tom have two wonderful children, Jeff and Christine and their spouses Jean and Tom. Four beautiful grandchildren, Logan, Brennen, Emily and Madeline. All of them were the joys of her life. In 1983, shortly after moving to Sanibel, Theresa was the founding inspiration to the organization known as FRIENDS WHO CARE. This non-profit organization has helped many Sanibel and Captiva families over the past 32 years. She was a past member of the Sanibel American Business Women's Association and a mentor to several students in the Take Stock in Children Program. Her passion was to take care of children and families especially during the Holiday season. Giving of her heart and soul to make life better for those who are struggling with having just the basic things in life. A celebration of life will be held on Friday March 20, 2015 at 10:30 AM, at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, 2050 Periwinkle way, Sanibel FL 33957 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Friends Who Care Inc., 1619 Periwinkle Way Suite 102, Sanibel FL 33957.
