The Community House is offering a few lectures the first and second week of January that is open to the community.

Ron Clarke will showcase approximately 70 photographs of birds in a slideshow presentation of the feathered beauties he was able to photograph while visiting Brazil two years ago. A guide chauffeured Clarke and one of his colleagues to the rainforest on Brazil's Atlantic coast where he took countless photographs.

"It was a trip to take pictures," he said of the seven days. "I take pictures of birds all over the world really just as a hobby."

At 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, Clark will appear at The Community House as the first of a three-part lecture series.

As soon as digital cameras appeared in the stores, Clarke realized it would greatly help photography and purchased his first camera.

"I was interested in photography and birds," he said. "I bought a digital camera and started taking bird photographs. I have always been interested in birds. I am not a real birder. I am not even a real photographer, but I know a great deal about photography."

Although Clarke spends most of his time in New Jersey, Sanibel is also his home part of the year.

"I like 'Ding' Darling a lot," he said of places to take photographs on Sanibel. "But also some of the beaches are quite nice down by the lighthouse."

Principle Scientist at McCormick and Company Francis Tutt will invite attendees into the world of spices from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4. Spice samples will also be a part of her presentation.

Anne Krueger, a professor, economist and consultant, will provide a speech at The Community House from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, regarding the current economics. She will spend time sharing her thoughts of economic concepts that shape the world.

Donations are suggested at the door for the lectures.
