Please write to the county commissioners reminding them that almost 83 percent of citizens voted to continue the 20/20 program. There are three parcels for consideration for the Commissioners on March 21.
One parcel is in Olga on the Caloosahatchee River; 92 acres for $2,663.059. The second is 17.88 acres bordering Ding Darling on Sanibel for $1,411,500. The third is 12.24 acres bordering existing 20/20 property in North Fort Myers by the Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve by Bayshore near I-75 for $105,000. Even more importantly the 4,000 acre Edison Farm is being considered for purchase and bids must be placed by March 13 to the realtor representing the sellers. This is east of I-75 near Estero and it is mostly wetlands over the aquifer that serves the needs of drinking water for most of Lee County. It needs to be purchased as preservation in perpetuity without the extension of Roadway 951 linking Collier and Lee County through it.
The 20/20 program has been on hold for several years and it's time to buy these properties before they are paved over by development. The next meeting of the commissioners is Feb. 21 if you want to appear to speak. Others are March 7 and 21.
