Hurricane Irma update from City of Sanibel

September 5, 2017
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

As of 12:15 p.m. the City of Sanibel reported that Hurricane Irma is a category 5 hurricane with 180 mph sustained winds.

The city's numerical guidance is now showing hurricane wind conditions likely in the area Sunday. The forecast track models are hanging on to a very sharp northward turn over the region. The timing of this turn, should it occur, will have drastic changes to the outcome of Irma's impact to Florida.

The city encourages everyone to pay close attention to the storm. Now is the time to implement a family, or personal hurricane plan. The city will push out updates to their website as they occur.
