Around 2:15 p.m. St. Isabel Catholic Church contacted the Sanibel Police Department Tuesday, Aug. 29, after they found a backpack left under a pew.

Sanibel Police Department Major Anthony Thompson said they were able to search the backpack, revealing nothing hazardous.

"There is no threat to the community," he said.

Thompson said the task force was contacted, the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Port Authority.

"There was nobody around it. Out of abundance of caution, we contacted the resources of Lee County's Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and their Canine Unit to determine if the backpack was a danger," he said.
