The Billy's at Bailey's location is participating in a special project this holiday season to send some cheer to the troops serving the country.

"It's a really cool thing to do," Manager Ryan Markosky said of the project, 10,000 for the Troops. "These guys don't want to be over there. They want to be with their family. It's a good deed."

Founder Salli Kirkland said they are doing the project not only to honor those serving the country, but also because Billy went to Vietnam at the age of 18. She said Billy experienced a life quite different than Christmas in South Georgia.

Last year 386 cards were signed and sent to the troops. This year, Markosky's personal goal is to reach 500 cards.

"I really want people to take it to heart. Take 30 seconds out of your time. You can touch someone's life," he said.

A card station will remain at Billy's, located at the Bailey's plaza, until Dec. 14. The station includes cards, stickers, markers and gel pens.

Markosky encourages those who sign a card to help themselves to the treats located on the table.

Individuals can stop by and fill out a card from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until Dec. 14.

Markosky has been touched by the response they have received so far. He shared that some people were moved to tears while filing out a card, thanking him for offering them the opportunity.

"It's great that it hits home," he said.

The card station will be available during the 33rd annual Luminary Festival Friday, Dec. 1. Markosky encourages individuals to stop by between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to sign a card and enjoy some treats. He said he will also be making balloon animals for the kids.
