For the last two decades, Captiva has held their own Luminary Festival. Captiva's Luminary Festival will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. along Andy Rosse Lane.

During Luminary, the Keylime Bistro will offer bruschetta, Latte Da Coffee Shop & Deli will have treats for kids, Cantina Captiva will have nachos, RC Otters will have spiked eggnog, the Celebration Center and Paradise Shopping Center will have bite-size pizza from Captiva Pizza and lastly, the Island Inn will have cookies.

Sandy Stilwell, CEO of Stilwell Enterprises, said she has participated in Luminary since 1999.

"It's part of a long time holiday tradition for the business on Captiva to welcome everybody with holiday cheer to let them know how important they are to us. It's a time of true community spirit at the local clubs and organizations join together and help us put out the luminaries, light them and pick them up the next morning," Stilwell said.

Before Luminary begins however, the Captiva Holiday Village will hold their 8th annual Golf Cart Parade at South Seas Island Resort, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Judging is at 2:30 p.m. The event is held rain or shine.

Rachele Noce, director of recreation and special events at South Seas Island Resort said that they get anywhere from 20-50 carts that participate each year.

"Everyone always gets really excited about it," Noce said.

The Golf Cart Parade will start at South Seas Island Resort and will make its way down Andy Rosse Lane and Captiva Drive.

Those who are interested in entering must be checked in to South Sea's Sand Dollar Plaza at 2 p.m. The registration fee is $20. Proceeds from the parade go toward the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.

An awards presentation for the best decorated golf carts will take place following the parade. Categories include "commercial," "non-commercial" and "best in show." A goodie bag will be given out to each decorated golf cart.

In addition to the awards presentation, their will also be a people's choice award. Individuals can vote for their favorite entry at facebook.com/@southseasresortvillage. The winner will be announced Tuesday, Dec. 5.
