Cape Coral Police Deputy Chief Lisa Barnes has graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Vir-ginia.

Two hundred and twenty-four law enforcement officers graduated from the 269th Session of the National Academy on Sept. 15, consisting of men and women from 48 states, the District of Columbia, 22 international countries, five military organizations and six federal civilian organizations.

Barnes left Quantico on Sept. 8 to be in Cape Coral to serve the city during Hurricane Irma.

She returned to the National Academy to complete the final week and she graduated on Dec. 15.

President Donald Trump was the principal speaker at the Dec. 15 ceremony.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program, held at the FBI Academy, offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies.

On average, the officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience.

Barnes will bring the experience and the knowledge gained back to the Cape Coral Police Department to continue the tradition of leadership at the agency.

Barnes has been with the Cape Coral Police Department since 1991 and has worked her way up through the ranks, working in all of the department's major bureaus.

Barnes joins Cape Coral Police Chief David Newlan as FBI National Academy alumni at the Cape Coral Police Department.

"We are so proud of Deputy Chief Barnes' accomplishments at the FBI National Academy. Her successful performance compliments her abilities as a leader and professional in this organization. This is a prestigious accomplishment for herself, the city and the department." Newlan said.
