Art by the disABLEd

Art by the disABLEd is on display in the Phillips Gallery at BIG ARTS, at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. The exhibition features about 50 paintings by participants in Lee Health's Arts in Healthcare program, which is designed for individuals with disabilities or physical limitations. Open Doors

Open Doors is on display in the Founders Gallery at BIG ARTS, at 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. The exhibition features work through an art program designed for children who demonstrate artistic interest or talent, but who also have financial need. Bailey Homestead: Making the Land Work

A walking tour of the Bailey Homestead Preserve from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. blends SCCF's mission-driven work on the historic property, the history of the land itself and some stories about the Bailey family. All-Levels Yoga

All-Levels Yoga from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. Use of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), mudra, philosophy, meditation and guided relaxation techniques. Instructor is Dr. Susan Pataky. Chi Yoga

Candidates forum

The Democratic Club of the Islands will host a candidates forum on May l7 at 7 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel. It will feature Charles Dailey, Karen Putnam-Watson, Betsy Vaughn and Mary Fisher, who is seeking re-election to the District 1 seat - a couple of the candidates running for the Lee County School Board. The Sanibel School's Performing Arts will present Disney's "The Lion King Jr." at 7 p.m. in the cafetorium, at 3840 Sanibel Captiva Road, Sanibel. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. The Elementary Choir and Seahorse Chorale will serve as the opening acts for the musical.

Experience Virtual Reality

Five-minute VR experience on "Google Painting" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sanibel Public Library, at 770 Dunlop Road, Sanibel. Paint a 3-D masterpiece in a virtual world with the Google Tilt Brush. For ages 10 and over. One user per session; first come, first served. No registration required.
