Shell Shocked: Schedule of Sanibel’s June events that you won’t want to miss

There is so much going on in Sanibel this time of year. We'd like to offer our guests and visitors an updated schedule of "must do" activities during the next few weeks.

- June 12: Join the residents of Sanibel in waving goodbye to the remaining snowbirds.

- June 13: Sanibel police arrest remaining snowbirds.

- June 15: The Optimists Club will practice drinking from glasses that are half full and destroy any glasses that are half empty.

- June 17: The Sanibel Writers Club will conduct a mass public burning of Art Stevens' columns.

- June 19: Doc Ford's will extend its "Happy Hour" from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning.

- June 21: The gentle yoga class normally scheduled at the Rec Center has been canceled and is being replaced by a gentle mud wrestling class.

- June 22: The Shell Museum will exhibit its latest rare find - Jimmy Hoffa's clavicle.

- June 24: Hillary Clinton visits Sanibel to decide if she wants to run for mayor.

- June 26: This week's Zonta meeting will focus on beginning its next goodwill activity - painting a new white line on Sanibel Captiva Road.

- June 26: "Ding" Darling will host a seminar on the natural habitats of Sanibel's tyrannosaurus population, plus an interview with young Tim Tyrannosaurus who will be the starting center of the FGCU basketball team this fall.

- June 27: The cast of "Pirates of the Caribbean" gather in Sanibel to begin filming its next sequel "Mutiny of The Shell Ghosts."

- June 29: BIG ARTS will feature an exhibit of Neanderthal art to be followed one week later by Rosenthal art.

- June 30: The monthly Sanibel Public Library exhibit of local artists will feature the doodlings of this year's city council members to be followed by a lecture by Dr. Sigmund Freud IV on why elected officials shouldn't be caught doodling.

- April 1: Local writer Charles Sobczak will autograph his new book "A Natural Guide to Scotch Tape" and will provide historical anecdotes on the use of Scotch tape in Sanibel history.

- July 3: The Captiva Erosion Prevention District invites the community to a fund-raising barbecue on its 10-inch wide beach.

- July 6: Arnold Schwarzenegger will demonstrate how to lift weights at the Rec Center while governing the state of California.

- July 8: Local accounting firms will put on a seminar on the principles of successful tax evasion, along with a legal defense fund backup plan.

- July 9: "Ding" Darling will unveil its new "Jungle Habitat" featuring Tarzan, Jane and Boy.
